12 Lessons For Real Estate Agents Who Are Stuck

If you're feeling stuck, here are a few lessons to help you move through your fears, hurdles, or stagnation.

  1. Be enthusiastic about real estate and curious about what others are working on. Your people skills will immediately move into the top-tier.
  2. It’s true that life’s busy, but you have more spare moments than you think.
  3. Knowing is not the same as acting. Taking action can be a real b*tch, but, like a workout, you’ll never regret it.
  4. Don’t just “kinda” learn skills. It’s easy to be overconfident when you’re first learning. If you’re going to learn something, really learn it, don’t just dabble. Your success is only limited by your learning. Become more dedicated to learning (not just consuming), and your trajectory changes.
  5. You’re not troubled. You have problems, and problems have solutions. How do you find solutions? Hypotheses + tests. If you’re stuck (in life or work), run a test.
  6. Fear is masking areas you feel insufficient. You’re never insufficient. It’s much harder to “out-think” fear than it is to “out-act” fear. Do what makes you scared and it becomes less scary.
  7. We play it safe to not rock the boat, but rocking the boat is exactly what gets us ahead.
  8. If it ain't broke, it still might need fixing. Certain things like poor health, attention, and relationships have cascading negative impacts on other areas.
  9. Test going “all in.” Go crazy hard on something. You’ll learn a lot about what you’re working on and yourself. But remember, it’s a phase of life.
  10. The people who succeed are those who a) see setbacks as part of the process b) aren’t afraid to look dumb c) never stop learning.
  11. The less time between action and satisfaction, the more we should limit it. The more time between action and satisfaction, the more we should embrace it.
  12. Try to fail more. More failures means your testing. The more tests you run, the closer you get to success. If you don’t have a list of failures, it’s unlikely you’ll succeed.
